Life Has Been "Lifing" Lately
Let me just say it: life has been “lifing” lately. For those unfamiliar with the term, it’s a way to describe when life feels like it’s coming at you from every direction, leaving you to juggle responsibilities, emotions, and dreams all at once. And let me tell you, as a mom, career, entrepreneur, and someone navigating the grieving process, it can feel overwhelming.
Many of you know I’ve decided to publish another book. Writing has always been my healthy outlet for coping. As I poured my thoughts onto the page, I realized that if writing was helping me heal, it might also help others. But in the midst of everything—motherhood, work, entrepreneurship, and personal loss—I found myself neglecting the very self-care practices I’m always preaching to others.
The Wake-Up Call
Last night, I had a moment of clarity: enough is enough. I couldn’t keep pushing myself to the brink without taking the time to refill my own cup. It was time to get back on track and make myself a priority again. This morning, after attending service, I took the first steps: I completed my workout routine, went grocery shopping, did meal prep for the week, and even defined my business goals for the next seven days. One of those goals? Writing this blog to share my experience and hopefully inspire others who might feel the same.
Reestablishing Priorities
If you’ve been feeling like life is lifing for you too, here are some practical ways to reestablish your priorities and get back on track:
1. Me Time
Carve out intentional time for yourself. Whether it’s a long bath, reading a book, journaling, or simply sitting in silence, make it a non-negotiable part of your day. This isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for your well-being.
2. Self-Reflection
Take a moment to evaluate where you are versus where you want to be. Journaling can help you process emotions, identify stressors, and clarify your goals. Reflect on what’s been working for you and what hasn’t.
3. Exercise
Physical activity is a game-changer for both mental and physical health. Whether it’s yoga, a brisk walk, or a full workout session, find something you enjoy and commit to it regularly. Today’s workout left me feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the week.
4. Social Time
Connecting with others is essential. Schedule coffee with a friend, a family dinner, or even a phone call to catch up. Don’t underestimate the power of social connection to uplift your spirit.
5. Healthy Meals
Meal prep isn’t just about convenience; it’s about fueling your body with the nutrients it needs to thrive. Spend some time planning and preparing meals that nourish both your body and mind.
6. Setting Goals
Goals give you direction and purpose. Break them down into manageable tasks for the week ahead. Today, I defined my business goals, and it felt amazing to have a clear vision of what I want to achieve. Remember, small wins add up to big progress.
Moving Forward
This journey isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. Life will always "life," but how we respond makes all the difference. By prioritizing self-care, reflection, and intentional living, we can create a balance that not only helps us cope but also helps us thrive.
So, here’s to reclaiming our peace and realigning with our priorities. If life has been lifing for you lately, I hope you’ll join me in saying, “Enough is enough.” Let’s do the work to take care of ourselves, because we deserve it.
And speaking of doing the work, I can’t wait to share more about my upcoming book. The official release day is next Sunday, 2/6/25. This project has been such a healing journey for me, and I truly believe it has the potential to inspire and help others. Stay tuned for updates—I’m so excited for you to read it!—I’m so excited for you to read it!
